There was no clear winner at the weekend when defending ENZED V8 Ute Racing champion Caine Lobb went up against current points leader Chris Pither at the brand new circuit of Hampton Downs Motorsport Park, south of Auckland.
The pair finished the weekend with two race wins apiece and left the spectacular modern circuit with a status quo in the series standings with just 40 points between the two before heading to the South Island for the penultimate and final rounds of the season next month.
Where either of the two did not win the race, they instead placed second with the exceptional drivers battling each other to the chequered flag and leaving the remainder of the V8 ute drivers behind.
Although both took an equal number of points and placings from the meeting, Palmerston North's Chris Pither was awarded the round win. This came down to a series ruling where it was deemed that the winner of the final race was awarded the round win after there was no clear victor.

The “V 4 & Rotary Nationals” is New Zealands largest import car show, held at ASB Showgrounds in Greenlane, Auckland. Saturday is reserved for the show’n’shine inside the halls, with NZ’s top show / race / street cars displayed along with plenty of vendors keen to showoff their products and customer cars.
For the first time ever, a drifting demonstration was scheduled to happen at midday in front of the thousands of visitors. Myself and 7 other top NZ drifters were invited along to show the fans what drifting is all about on the tight 2nd gear course.
The event was extremely well coordinated, Azhar and the team definitely know how to put on a good show. I had heaps of fun, could actually hear the crowd yelling while I was sliding around the course in my S14.
I signed and gave away over 100 posters on the day, the crowd response was huge. Everyone was impressed with how close I was getting to the barriers. I also managed to take a few people for hotlaps. |

This weekend’s fourth and penultimate round of the 2010 Toyota Racing Series is the race season highlight for Triple X Motorsport team drivers Earl Bamber and Stefan Webling, with the running of the New Zealand Grand Prix at Manfeild.
While chasing the Toyota Racing Series championship title, 19-year-old Bamber has long dreamed of holding the illustrious trophy.
One of only two Grand Prix status races run outside the Formula One category, the New Zealand event has a long and celebrated history, including many multi-national winners. First run in 1950, names such as Stirling Moss, Jack Brabham, Bruce McLaren, Kenny Smith, Chris Amon, and Craig Baird adorn the trophy that was last year won by Triple X Motorsport driver Daniel Gaunt. |

In returning to Manfeild this weekend for The Mad Butcher 200, there is a sense of unfinished business for Andrew Anderson.
Last season he narrowly missed out on his maiden pole position by less than two tenths of a second to line up alongside current NZV8 series leader Craig Baird on the front row. During the racing, a couple of incidents (DNF in race 1 whilst in third position and spinning out while leading a wet race 3) saw him give away strong results and what should have been a podium result for the weekend.
“Last year is great motivation for me. I feel the car is now better than last year and with us able to get the balance of the ITM Commodore sorted at Timaru, I am eager to continue our momentum. The AV8 Motorsport team has been further developing areas of the chassis that we believe will make the Holdens that little bit more competitive and close the gap to the Fords” commented Anderson.

It was a challenging round that produced a good result. Chris Pither 'The Doctor' took victory at Round 3 of the 2009/2010 NZV8 Ute Series at Hampton Downs this weekend in the closest round of the series to date. In fact it could not have been any closer with the series rules resolving a points tie with defending champion Caine Lobb in favour of Pither due to his placing in the final race. After Pither dominated qualifying and the first race of the round on Saturday he and Lobb had a great tussle for overall round honours during Sunday's three races at the new circuit in North Waikato. The duo ended the round tied on points, Chris gaining his third successive round victory by virtue of his win in the fourth and final race. A series rule states that in the event of a tie the higher placed driver in the final race will take the round. |
